Founded in 1950 as Gulf Aviation, this Manama-based airline from the Emirate of Bahrain, was for decades a joint airline of the Gulf emirates and closely connected to BOAC. It gained an outstanding reputation until the 90s although the competition became stiffer due to the in part newly founded competitors from the Gulf region. All Gulf Air planes are registered in Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman, which is why the original of this model carries the registration A40-LG.
