The famous twin-engined Douglas aircraft of the Allies went down in history as “candy bombers” during the time of the Berlin airlift. In 1948, with access to Berlin’s West Sectors denied on the ground by the soviet occupation zone, they provided the people of West Berlin food and other important goods from the air. Air Service Berlin keeps one of the once 10,000 aircraft alive – a 2001 in England obtained C-47 manufactured in 1945 and registered D-CXXX. Today it is being operated for sightseeing flights over Berlin, starting from Tempelhof.
